HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Defense Department is looking for a contractor to design and build the permanent headquarters of U.S. Space Command at Redstone Arsenal, a project it values at about $4 billion.
An advance notice posted Oct. 13 calls for a roughly 700,000-square-foot mission-critical facility and secure data center on a 64-acre site, built for about 1,800 personnel, according to DCD, which first reported the notice. The Air Force Civil Engineer Center is running the procurement. Bidders must be U.S.-based and hold a Top Secret facility clearance, and the building will need shielding against radio frequency and electromagnetic pulse threats along with classified workspace. Applications are due Dec. 15, and the facility is due by December 2031. Space Command is moving its headquarters from Colorado Springs in phases, with full relocation expected by 2032.
