TOMBALL, Texas — SEG Solar has secured land for a planned $950 million, 4-gigawatt heterojunction (HJT) solar cell plant at its Tomball Industrial Campus in the greater Houston area, the company announced Oct. 29. The facility is expected to create more than 700 local jobs.
The plant is planned to come online in two 2-gigawatt phases, targeted for 2028 and 2029. It will sit next to SEG's existing 4-gigawatt Tomball #1 module factory and its 4.6-gigawatt Tomball #2 module plant, which is under construction. The cell plant would let the company make both solar cells and modules in Texas. The release does not name any incentives or public partners.
