TROY, Ala. — Lockheed Martin broke ground Oct. 27 on a 47,000-square-foot expansion of Building P-20 at its Troy plant, a $67 million investment in facilities and equipment for production of the Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon, or ARRW, a hypersonic missile. The company said the addition will triple the building's production space and that it put up the money before receiving government funding.
The groundbreaking came as Lockheed announced a $694 million U.S. Air Force contract for ARRW production. That contract is separate from the $67 million facility investment. The company said the expansion will generate new jobs over the next four years but did not give a number.
