MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama will invest nearly $450 million to expand engine production at its Montgomery plant for hybrid and extended-range electric vehicle technologies, Gov. Kay Ivey's office announced Oct. 28. The project will create 53 new full-time positions with an average hourly wage of $30.03, according to the release.

The plant, which currently employs 4,200 team members, will be prepared to build the refreshed Santa Fe and the all-new Tucson, including hybrid versions. A photo caption in the release lists a capital investment of $412,885,541 and does not explain the gap with the "nearly $450 million" in its text. Hyundai Motor Company President José Muñoz had said in late September that the company would spend about half a billion dollars in Alabama. The release mentions no incentives.
