UPPER MERION TOWNSHIP, Pa. — GSK will invest over $800 million to expand its facilities in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, and create more than 300 new jobs over the next five years, Gov. Josh Shapiro and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development announced Oct. 9. Construction is planned to begin in 2027.
The project will turn the site into a biopharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing hub. Plans call for demolishing existing buildings and adding a commercial-scale biologics manufacturing facility for clinical and commercial supply, a co-located R&D pilot plant, a centralized quality control lab and a manufacturing science and technology hub. GSK will also retain approximately 4,500 existing full-time jobs across Pennsylvania. The company is eligible for the state's Qualified Manufacturing Innovation and Reinvestment Deduction and Manufacturing Tax Credit programs, and the release gives no dollar amounts. The state calls it GSK's second major Pennsylvania expansion under Shapiro, after a 2024 project in Marietta.
